Facebook security settings

August 25, 2009 (12:24 pm) By: Ms. Moxie

It seems like the entire planet is on Facebook. Chances are, you should be on there, too. But don’t go into it blindly. There are some very important things you should know about your privacy and how to protect it. As soon as you open your account, you should alter some key security settings in order to protect your personal information from unwanted prying eyes. There is an easy way to make your information visible only to those people to whom you have given permission.

First, go to the top right corner of your Facebook page and choose “Privacy Settings” from the “Settings” dropdown menu.

Next, choose “Profile” from the resulting page.  You will then see a list of settings for various aspects of your profile.  Because someone can only be your Facebook friend if you approve or invite them, those folks should be people you deem relatively trustworthy with your information.  Therefore, you should set all the options for your profile to “Only Friends.”  That way, random people and total strangers won’t have access to your information.

Be sure to click “Save Changes” when you are done.
