*** “Group Wisdom” is a new series where I reach out to members of the Moxie community for advice on best business practices. Members are chosen at random from our Moxie membership list — you might be hearing from me soon! ***
Most of us have hyphenate interests and areas of expertise — you may be an attorney-life coach-poet, a writer-editor-Reiki master, an artist-intuitive-massage therapist, etc. It makes sense — so often, women find themselves filling many roles at once, so why shouldn’t that extend to our professional lives?
In fact, a lot of us are on our second or third or fourth careers, whether through necessity, changing interests, or evolving passions. But how do you settle on what you’re focused on right now?
How did you find your niche? In other words, how did you align your unique interests and abilities with a need you saw in the world — and what advice would you give to other women who are looking to do the same?
To see how Women with Moxie have done it, I reached out to a few of our members at random. Here is some of the wisdom I received in response:
“In my years of building my current and previous businesses I would have to say that my niches have found me. Whenever I am feeling pulled in a direction and people eagerly want to pay me for my knowledge and skills on a topic, I open myself to accepting I could have something unique to offer. My business models have changed over the years but my core essence is still always real and solid: I give advice to other women for them to really look at how people know and talk about them. For example, if people always comment how creative you are, then really look at your artistic talents. When people say you have a way of saying things like no one else, then look at your motivation and inspiration skills. Often we are our own worst critic, so step away from your own ego and truly listen to what draws others to you. There you will find the magic in what makes you step out of the crowd and shine for others to learn from you.”

“When I was a young adult my dad committed suicide. In an effort to understand this (since it was a complete surprise to us) I had a reading with a psychic medium. The session was very healing and I knew from the information she provided during the reading that she reached my dad’s soul. From there the message was profound. I found peace after this experience and was hooked.
Although it was terrible that my dad committed suicide, I have him to thank. I began attending meditation, psychic circles and classes to develop my own abilities.
As I gained more confidence from having a relationship with my higher self, I found the strength to open up a part-time business. I took classes on how to run a business and worked with a business mentor. This really helped me turn my passion into a full time business. If you’re like me, you’ve had a lot of toxic jobs. I was so happy that I could finally take the leap and do what brings me joy every day. It is possible to reinvent yourself. Take small steps to move forward on your path and don’t quit your day job right away. Use your motivation to seek a new direction to keep motivated and align yourself with positive people that support your efforts. Don’t waste time with the ones who don’t get it.”

“I’d say bring your life to your work. Let your heart awaken.Your niche is what sets your heart ablaze. And that will also be the source of inspiration that will keep you going when business becomes the day-to-day slog . My original business is massage therapy; for 25 years it was a passionate calling. But I saw the need for a deeper healing, one that got to the source of the issue and cleared it away so the tissues could heal. And I had my own health issues that were vexing me, which were also being resistant to clearing. For me and my clients, the usual Western medicine approaches were not working. Then I discovered Emotional Freedom Techniques and found the answers I was looking for. Indeed, a whole new world coalesced around me that included Energy Medicine, the new science of epigenetics and so much more. My lifelong passion had found a new level, one that would let me reach more people than ever before. I love to help you feel better, and find the hidden stories that are holding you back.”
