What is Your Magic Wand?

Magic is everywhere, embedded in everything. I joke to the skeptics in my life (and I was once one myself) that magic is just nature we haven’t yet found a way to explain or rationalize. You might also see magic as the manifestation of wonder.
Magic is our natural state. We witness and create magic every day: in our lives, in our businesses, in our relationships. When you train yourself to see and feel magic, you realize it’s wrapped up in the tiniest-seeming events. And you’ll see more and more of it in your life.
Let me share an example.
Once upon a time I went into each networking event with a sole focus on accomplishing “bottom line” sorts of things. What’s my elevator pitch? What’s my offer? What should I wear? Very practical things to consider.
But one day I realized how much better I served and was served to focus on listening and expecting magic. Magical connections. Amazing opportunities to share and hear my journey mirrored in someone else’s journey. Making friends. Finding unique chances to collaborate.
What I got, when I changed my expectation and focus, was magic. I made connections that changed the scope of my life. I met people who showed me deeper and deeper ways to believe in myself and what I had to offer. I was led through organically, step by step, toward my perfect fit clients; it rarely happened just because I came into the room with a business card in hand and an offer to make, though that never hurt. However, the magic was in the connection, not in the pitch.
And, when I expected magic, I got more magic.
I’ve made many magical sister connections through Women with Moxie who have launched me forward as a human and a High Priestess of Business. Each one has shared deep insights and reveled in my successes, or shed light on how to reframe things I might have originally viewed as failures.
Transmutation of anything is magic. Especially of old stories and ideas that don’t really serve us.
I also believe in expecting magic in my day-to-day work. I believe logos are magic. Seriously, when you create a logo and it means something to you on a deep level, that is for realz magic. When you create a site that truly expresses who you are and shows what you offer in a clear way, that can work like magic for your business. Putting yourself out there, simply being visible is magic.
When you stop seeing it as work and see it as magic, it really opens up doors. It helps you envision yourself as someone on a heroine’s journey; it elevates your work and gives you a new perspective to experience joy and wonder.
When we were kids, we knew what wonder looked like. When we train ourselves to be in wonder, to strip away the “should dos” from our language and choose to frame everything in wonder and magic, it adds delight and ease to even the most mundane tasks.
A friend told me the other day about how she had suddenly been called to question, “What are the magic wands in your life?” She realized that her hands were her magic wands. She could feel energy and colors through them, and that informed all her healing work and paintings. It went through every aspect of her life and all she created. Elevating her hands to the role of magic wands helped her connect with the wonder of her own capabilities.
I would say my three magic wands are the Tarot, my Macbook Pro, and my Canon DSLR. I am a deep listener and I listen with all my ears, but The Tarot helps me get to the clearest truth about what I see and feel, so that I take the most aligned action. My computer and camera are my tools where I do most of my downloads and manifest all my creations, from artwork to video editing to writing to co-creating websites. With these three magic wands I am able to perform every act of magic in my life.
What are your magic wands? How do you train yourself to expect magic? And, most of all, are you ready to receive it?
It’s out there, waiting for you. When you expect magic, it will find you, in everything you do.
